WASHINGTON — Despite a lukewarm response from Congress, the White House is intensifying its campaign to urge lawmakers to pass legislation that would establish a “most-favored nation” drug pricing policy, according to two Trump administration officials familiar with the discussions.
The administration has been encouraging Republicans on Capitol Hill to back a comprehensive health care package that would impact providers, insurers, federal agencies, and patients. A key focus of this effort is legislation aimed at reducing medication costs to levels below those paid by other comparable countries.
So far, lawmakers have been largely unreceptive to the proposal, with Republicans describing it as government overreach that conflicts with free-market principles, one official said. Nevertheless, the White House remains committed to advancing the initiative.
