TROUTMAN, N.C. —
An 18-year-old South Iredell High School student was arrested and charged after police said he admitted to playing a social media game called “Senior Assassin.”
On Tuesday, Troutman police responded to a convenience store on North Main Street following a report of an individual armed with a pistol who allegedly pointed it at two teenagers inside the store. When officers arrived, both the suspect and the teenagers had already left. Police received a description of the vehicle the suspect was driving.
School Resource Officers later spotted a vehicle matching the description in the school parking lot and placed the school on immediate lockdown as a precaution.

Police located and detained the driver, a student at South Iredell High School. The student admitted to participating in the social media game “Senior Assassin” and explained that the weapon involved was a water gun. Officers recovered the water gun, which resembled a real firearm. Following this, the lockdown was lifted.
Due to the disruption caused, the student was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and disrupting an educational institution. He was released on a $5,000 secured bond.
“While this incident stemmed from a game, Troutman Police Department and the administration of South Iredell High School strongly discourage participation in ‘Senior Assassin,’ both on and off campus. Activities of this nature can create significant public alarm and may be perceived as a real threat, potentially leading to serious or life-threatening consequences,” the police department stated.
