Fresno County students prepare for the annual science fair

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Middle and high school students from across Fresno County are preparing for this year's annual science fair.

More than 250 students spent Monday setting up their projects at the Fresno Fairgrounds.

Organizers expressed excitement and pride in the students' interest and knowledge in science, mathematics, and engineering.

"It's so important that behind us, these kids are our future doctors, engineers, and professionals in all science fields. Their participation in the science fair today shows support for science in our Valley," said Jason Horsman, director of STEM for the Fresno County superintendent of schools. "I can't wait to see these kids grow, return to the Valley, and contribute to the incredible science being done here."

On Tuesday, students will be interviewed by judges about their projects and the months of experimentation they conducted throughout the school year.

Awards will be announced on Thursday, including thousands of dollars in scholarships and opportunities to compete at the state and regional levels.

This marks the 74th year of the Fresno County Science Fair.
